“Promoting a clean, green and sustainable environment”

- Maintain the local street scene by working in partnership with the County and Parish Councils;
- Reduce energy and water costs and adopt more sustainable ways of delivering services;
- Maintain parks, countryside and open spaces to an affordable standard.
Based on our corporate priority “Promoting a clean, green and sustainable environment”, below are Worthing Leisure’s objectives and ongoing initiatives.
Currently, Worthing Leisure is aiming to reduce energy consumption by 35% by 2014.
We aim to do this in the ways outlined for each leisure site below.
The works undertaken throughout December 2011 in the Main Hall are to upgrade the existing fluorescent tubes to a new energy efficient LED lighting system.
Staff and contractors have been working through the night over a 3-week period to minimise disruption to the Centre’s programme of bookings.
The project is part of Worthing Borough Council and Worthing Leisure’s commitment to its corporate priority of promoting a clean, green and sustainable environment.
A summary of the benefits is detailed below:
- Average life expectancy of an LED light equates to 80,000 hours of use (75% more than a standard lamp).
- Lighting and Colour clarity is significantly improved.
- The LED lighting projects a saving of £5,249 per annum via savings across the Climate Change Levy, maintenance costs, reduced supply charges for maximum demand and a reduction in waste costs.
- A reduction in waste (on average 10 bulbs less changed per annum).
- Reduction to operational disruption as less time required for maintenance.
- Dimmable functionality for use if required.
- Positive environmental impact – LED lighting ensures less fossil fuel depletion, reduced CO² emissions and reduction in pollution.
We hope our customers enjoy the use of new energy efficient lighting.
