Busy periods at Splashpoint Leisure Centre

We are currently experiencing high volumes of customers who wish to go swimming in busy periods (weekends, evenings and holiday periods). As a result customers should be aware that there could be waiting time of up to 60 minutes before they can gain entry to the pools.

Splashpoint is operating a band system that will give a minimum swim time of 90 minutes. If you are attending a fitness class, using the gym or have children in swimming lessons please go straight to the front desk.

Thank you for your patience & co-operation at this time and we hope you enjoy your visit to Splashpoint Leisure Centre.

Join our new car sharing scheme - FREE!

What would you do with an extra £974 a year? That’s how much a typical commuter saves when they car-share to the gym.

We’ve recently set up a new car-sharing scheme with Liftshare.com, especially for Worthing Leisure at all four sites (Worthing Leisure Centre, Splashpoint Leisure Centre, Davison Leisure centre and Field Place), designed to help you reduce your daily travel costs while helping to reduce CO2 emissions at the same time.

It is totally free to use and enables you to find others going your way, so you can share the journey. You can take turns driving, offer someone a lift (in exchange for a contribution to the fuel costs) or look for someone to give you a lift.

Once registered, you can access your account from work or home, making searching as convenient as possible. You can also choose whether to search for matches among Worthing Leisure members or from the whole Liftshare nationwide database.

And you don’t have to do it every day. It’s completely flexible; once you’ve found others going your way, you decide between yourselves how often it suits you to share.

Discover for yourself just how much money you can save by car-sharing. To sign up and find a car-share companion or two, just go to www.worthingleisure.liftshare.com

This is a brand new scheme so please do not be put off if there are no members going on the same journey as you for the time being - we want this service to work so please bear with us whilst we promote this exciting new scheme.

Happy car-sharing!

Congratulations to our 2 lucky families

Congratulations to our 2 lucky families who won a free Fit4 membership as part of a Splash FM breakfast competition.

Mark Robinson and family and David and Hannah March (all from Worthing) were absolutely delighted with their prize.

Paralympian golden girl Ellie Simmonds confirmed to open Splashpoint

Splashpoint

Four times Paralympic Champion Ellie Simmonds is officially booked to open Worthing's brand new £19.7m Splashpoint Leisure Centre on the morning of 20th June this year.

The complex designed by London based Wilkinson Eyre Architects' design has attracted lots of attention both here and worldwide for its innovative, totally unique, modern, design and offers Worthing and its surrounding communities:

  • Two competition pools one 13m x 12m for diving/lessons and a six lane ASA standard 25m x 13m swimming pool - both with movable floors
  • Children's leisure pool, a flume, an interactive pirate ship, water fall and outdoor paddling pool
  • Health and fitness facilities with 100 exercise stations, two multi -use studios, two treatment rooms and spa area with steam and sauna rooms
  • A landscaped entrance piazza with reception and café
  • Oh and great sea views!

The complex boasts an impressive range of 'green' credentials too:

  • The movable floors act as a cover when raised maintaining water temperature and minimising heat losses in the pools
  • The ground source heat pump field installed in Beach House Grounds will help heat the building in winter and keep it cool in summer using renewable energy
  • Due to regenerative media filters the pool will save over 6,000m3 of water per year saving 150,000KWh.
  • Grey water tanks to recycle water to flush the toilets

Splashpoint opens to the public on Wednesday 1st May 2013, with a fun-filled programme of events to celebrate the opening over the bank holiday weekend 4/5/6 May

Construction company Morgan Sindall, who built the pool, use local staff for local projects where possible. They employed up to 2,000 extra people to build Splashpoint, many of them from the locality. Some of those 2,000 stayed during the week in local B&Bs thus doing their bit to reduce any carbon footprint and boost Worthing's economy. Morgan Sindall also employed many local sub-contractors from within the Worthing area, e.g. Kingsley Roofing for the copper roof and signage from Tara Signs.

Worthing leader, Paul Yallop, says:

“We wanted to ensure that our new pool complex would appeal to as many Worthing families and visitors as possible. The design incorporates four separate pools with space for all sections of the community. Splashpoint offers more swimming classes than ever before as well as competitive swimming and water polo not forgetting the fun water stuff. The facilities for our Fit4 club members are second to none.”

“We are very excited about Ellie coming to open the new pool in June. We are grateful to Short Breaks for Disabled Children and Worthing Scope who have helped us to make the complex fully inclusive.”

“Splashpoint really will give Worthing a lasting legacy continuing the spirit of London 2012.”

Ellie Simmonds OBE says:

“I'm absolutely honoured to be part of such an ambitious and amazing project. I'm sure the new pool will inspire the next generation of Olympic and Paralympic swimmers and will provide the whole region with an incredible facility to get fit and socialise.”

“I really can’t wait, not to mention also being incredibly proud, to come and open the pool on June 20th, where I'll get a close-up look at the Leisure Centre and all the tremendous work that has gone into it first-hand.”

David Sershall, area director for Morgan Sindall, said;

“We are delighted to have brought our expertise in constructing leisure facilities to bear on this iconic project, which will provide a first-class leisure facility for the residents of Worthing. We completed the project on schedule and look forward to seeing the centre open in May.”

“We have been inundated with new Fit4 enquiries,” says leisure services manager, Duncan Anderson, “people really want to come along and use our fantastic new state-of-the-art facilities, and at just £43 a month for all four sites including Splashpoint it really is exceptional value for money. I urge everyone to visit www.worthingleisure.co.uk for some fitness inspiration.”

The DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) compliant complex offers 'changing places' changing facilities linking directly from reception to poolside, accessible lockers, easy access 'beach' type pool access, handrails and lifts and more, a major part of which was financed by West Sussex County Council's Short Breaks service and Worthing Scope.

Pauline Fox, CEO, Worthing Scope, said;

“This complex is an amazing facility for the town. Worthing Scope were pleased to make a contribution towards ensuring that facilities were accessible and available to be enjoyed by the disabled members of our community.”

West Sussex County Council cabinet member for children and families, Peter Evans, said:

“Our Short Breaks service has provided a £30,000 grant to this project to help ensure that the facilities can be used by everyone including children and young people with complex needs, and we look forward with interest to the opening of the leisure centre.”

In 2009, following years of debate, Worthing council embarked on a design competition run by The Royal Institute of British Architects for a new swimming pool complex which was won by Wilkinson Ayre. Work started on building Worthing's brand new pool complex to replace the aging 1960s Aquarena back in September 2011 and was completed on schedule and in time for May 1st opening.
